Network help

3x usb printers, I want 2 of them connected to the server.

2x pcs, at the moment on a workgroup.

1x server, connected to nothing at the moment.

1x Router doing dhcp, dns, firewalling, internet.

I wanted to have a go at making a domain with the server running as a FAP & firewall, how should I join it all together? Red=LAN, Green=WLAN.

Will the wireless be a problem because it doesnt seem to kick in until after the pcs have logged into windows, so how can they see the domain controller?
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Why is the server connected via copper and wireless?

It depends. Windows caches the last few domain credentials you last used to log in so as long as you log on once while there is an active network connection you should be fine.

However, the PCs not connecting to the wireless network until theyre logged in is not a Windows thing, it is a function of the driver. Are the PCs running XP? SP2? Did you load the software that came with the wireless cards or are you letting ZWC handle it? If you just install the wireless drivers without the (generally crap) management software provided by the manufacturer, the PCs should connect to the network before theyre logged on.

You might want to look into this

Belkin Wireless Print Server

Can handle 2 usb printers over a wireless connection works with most main brands of printers it seems.

Dunno if this is useful or not but i thought it might be an idea

Not quite. Not all client side extentions in Group Policy background refresh...they only apply during bootup, when you wont have an network connection...so youll never be able to deploy software, for example.

I just said it caches domain credentials, I didnt say anything about GPOs, software deployment, startup scripts, logon scripts or otherwise.

I was just pointing out that it wouldent really be fine as so many things either wouldent work or wouldent work properly.
