Any chefs out there? (Upbeat music needed).
on: August 05, 2008, 21:16:11 PM
I recently got a promotion (!!!!!!), and as such am now running a kitchen. I choose the music and its usually very upbeat metal. I cant work to slow music. Ive got a 4gb MP3 player hooked up to a pair of cheap speakers that do the job well enough. The problem is that after a month of 60hrs a week my lowly 2gb collection of suitable music is getting a little stale.

My selection includes Slipknot, Underoath, Kittie, and even a little Andrew WK - along with a good whack of happy pop-punk (mainly Blink and Bowling for Soup).

Whilst my collection is by no means limited to these artisits, Im struggling to find more suitable music. Most chefs Ive grown to know tend to rely on coke (ahem) to keep them going, whereas Ive found a healthy dose of metal during shift keeps me going just fine.

So, any suggestions?

N.B. At one point I had every System album on my MP3 player, Im taking a break.

I always used to insist on Radio 1 when I was working in a kitchen they could all unite in quietly hating me then rather than stopping working to argue about who’s turn it was to have there tape on (it was a few years ago :P)
Also saved me from having to listen to the full album’s of the latest depressing boy band :P

Another vote for Pitchsifter and NIN (be selective with the NIN as they have alot of mellow stuff which you wouldnt want)

Im one for having the radio turned on too, change channel depending on mood. A DAB one shouldnt be that expensive now.

Ive been listening to radio 1 quite a bit during the day recently and there are a few problems. Firstly at the moment you have to put up with Vernon Kay (come back Fearne Cotton, please!). However most importantly they do actually only have five songs that they just play on loop all day, which gets a bit mind numbing at times.

Fair point  ...but I think even you have to agree Vernon Kay is better then a Westlife album (or whoever was the flavour of the month around that time)  :P
