Soon I will be buying a nice camera
on: July 20, 2006, 01:03:22 AM
my budget will be £300 but id prefer £200ish.

I want as good as i can get for that range, im a complete novice, never owned a camera before, except on a phone. But I want to learn, I want to be able to fiddle with cool stuff like exposure time etc.

As hard wearing as possible aswell please, im a bit accident prone!

any suggestions?

Tip:  Max out your pixel count but beware of quotes of interpolated or effective pixels (thats just marketing bullsh*t).  Go for true/actual CCD size in pixels.  With a good enough camera, you can get a decent 30 inch x 20 inch print from a 2.74 Mb file (Nikon D1H).

Also, stick with the big names if you can - the lenses will be better.

A good buy would probably be a Nikon D100 or D50 but Im not sure what they go for s/h...

As ever, take a shufty through http://www.dpreview.com.  They have yankee names but often list the Euro/Brit equivalent models.

:)

get somat like my Fuji s5600. For £300 youll be very very close to a s9500.
All the fun of the fair just no lens changing.  :D But does have a tilting screen which is vey handy
If you get a DSLR its gonna blow that budget away.

s9500 review: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilms9000/
Price £313: http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/135392/art/fuji/finepix-s9500-zoom.html
though you might find a better price TBH

Edit: Savastore £309 http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10284134&pid=45&tid=279

A guy who used to do Video and take pictures at work has a Fuji s5600 but he bought his straight from Fujis Refurbished Cameras.  Ok there refurbished but there a lot cheaper

s9500 - £285
s7000 - £180
s5600 - £150

They seem to come with all the stuff you get from a brand new kit, its all been serviced by them so if there was any problems they should have been fixed.

Cheapest SLR would be the Nikon D50 @ about £350, personal preference would be the Fuji F5600 or the Panasonic FZ7 at this sort of price range
