D7000

Just ordered myself a D7000 from Jessops, using a few Tesco vouchers which I've doubled up £180 I should be getting it for about £700 yay for Tesco clubcard vouchers!

Just need to go and pick it up tonight, only problem is I've only got 2gb SD cards at the mo but I've ordered a couple of 32gb so called class 10's from mymemory that were on offer today.  Can't see them being the fastest in the world but they'll do for now.

Whoop Whoop roll on home time from work!

Nice, forgive me not remembering but what are you upgrading from?

Tesco vouchers are making for some impressive discounts recently.

Upgraded from a D50, so its quite an upgrade really, got my D50 in 2006.

Haven't played with it too much yet but so far its rather good, focusing is much quicker even with my Sigma 105mm which I did find slow on my D50 not so on this, same with my 50mm F1.8.   Wouldn't mind trying my 70-300 on this either, that used to hunt and generally be slow so hopefully it'll be an improvement but a friends got it at the mo.

The AI indexing tab is rather handy as well as it can read the aperture from my 400mm F5.6 which means I can use it in Aperture priority mode.

Auto-ISO is great, set a minimum shutter speed and a max ISO and it'll up the ISO until it gets the shutter speed and if it can't then it'll max the ISO and drop the shutter speed.

File sizes could be an issue before long, 50 pics was about a gig might be out of hard drive space soon :D

It does weight quite a bit more and it'll take a bit of getting used to 2 command dials.

Overall very pleased with it, just need to get some proper pictures taken with it.

Oh and £180 of vouchers and £36 worth of quidco is very handy!

beware, once you're used to having two command dials you wont be able to go back!

sounds like you got yourself quite an upgrade there, can't wait to see what you can do with it

I've used 2 before on a Nikon D2H in my previous job, but it was years ago and I didn't really know what I was doing (Not that I'd say I always do now!)

Hopefully I'll get a chance to have a decent play over the weekend, if anything I'm going on holiday to Jersey in a few weeks time so I need the practice.

I need to do some more proper testing but I seem to be having an issue with my Nikon 18-200 on my D7000 but its been reported on the net quite a bit.  Seems to be a cross between the lens not being able to resolve enough light to make use of the full 16mp and/or a back focusing issue.

Played around last night with using the AF Fine tune and I think I can improve it but need to do a full range of tests this weekend to try it.  The amount of fine tuning needed seems to change with the focal length of the lens which makes life a little awkward doh.
