So as XEntity has mentioned, were off to Iceland for 9 days of landscape photogrpahy lovin.

Im taking three lenses (10-22, 17-55 and 100L Macro) and right now only have usual filters (UV, circular polarisers).

From what Ive read some ND and GND filters would be a good idea if I wanted to get silky smooth waterfalls, lakes and clouds.

Has anyone used ND/GND filters? If you have what setup do you have?

The Cokin set you got me was good, obviously takes a bit more time to setup on the camera, but for the GND filter you can then at least adjust the height of the graduation.

Also if you have lenses where the end is not static when focusing, the GND filters will need to be held in place, slightly easier on that set as you know where the x/y is by feel.

I have a couple of standard ND filters as well (screw fit) which may work better as there is no risk of light leaking in.

One thing to consider is largest lens you are likely to use them with when getting screw fit, as you can get adapters to fit a bigger filter on a smaller lens, but not the other way round.

Obviously not so much of a problem with with the Cokin set.

On a slightly different not, I have just purchased an infra-red filter, should be good to play with!

My main concern is the 10-22mm.

Its so friggen wide you have to get a special Cokin P wide angle holder for it, which unlike the normal one is quite limiting in only being able to hold 1 filter. Ill then have to get the normal holder for the other lenses.

And I an see myself using it quite a bit.

Which screw in ND filters did you go for?

If I do go for slot filters Im torn between 85mm (Cokin P) or 100mm (Lee).

If I go 85mm Ill end up spending 100 pounds, if I go 100mm itll be more like 180, but will be better in the long term, especially when I move to full frame.

actually Im quite interested in this too - would like to get an ND filter just for trying some long exposure stuff

Im not what the reason behind a GND filter is these days when using digital - surely just as easy (and perhaps better in some ways)  to take 2 exposures and use photoshop

The ND filters I used are just generic ones, as I didnt want to spend a lot as it was mostly for one shoot I was doing at the time. Got an ND4 and and ND8.

@Dave you dont even need to do that, in light room you can add filters that would do this anyway with just one picture.

Ive got a set of Hitech ND Grad slot ins last year along with a cokin wide filter holder.  Cokin had a bit of a reputation for having a colour cast and Lees are well just far too expensive.

Got this set here

not a bad starter set

However Ive not really had the occasion to use them yet, by bad...

Thats what I was thinking Russell, get a Cokin P Wide Angel Holder + Hi Tech filters. I read about the colour cast as well which had me concerned.

Did you go for soft or hard grads?

I went for a set of softs, didnt think that softs would limit what I could do with them as much as a set of hards.

Cool, think I have enough storage, bringing the mini 9, just ordered an upgraded SSD for it for more space and speed, so will run light room a bit better.

Car charger for it arrived yesterday as well and might bring a small external HDD, providing itll power from the Mini 9s usb.

Also go a 2x multiplier off eBay the other day for a bit more zoom ;)

So think Ive got all the kit together, might check out some more grad ND filters though..

Slightly different note... Check this out... http://www.bokehmasterskit.com/buy/ cool effect
