More than 60 people were injured in a motorway crash involving 259 cars in Germany. The accident happened on the A2 autobahn between Hanover and Peine.

I suppose thats a message to the people that think everyone can drive safely at speed.

everyone can drive safely at speed, only some in heavy rain as well.

Anyway, from what I can see, most of the vehicles are on the inside lane. Only the outside lane has no speed limit & thats clear

nice dry spell... then a bit of rain comes along and the road would be extra slippy/greasy...

also... I wouldnt blame that on excess speed... Id blame it on all the tail gateing twats who obv. didnt leave enough room !

My thoughts exactly.

We could do with something like that over here that is uber publicised to maybe drive it home to some of the people that seem to be determined to stay a car length away from the person in frontSeems waaaaaayy more common than it used to be.

I dont blame speed alone.   More the other actions or inactions associated both within the limit and excess of the imposed legal limit.  I dont drive for economy or preach speed limits, what I do though drive with a factor of safety, limiting the risk.

Its just all those calls I keep hearing of people wanting the limit at 90 on motorways this made me thought of, if everyone in the uk had the ability and willingness to drive with a bit of courtesey driving appropriately for conditions, not to mention the mental stamina to concentrate that hard over long periods of time, then sure, why not.

If it went up now I couldnt see why the fatality rate on motorways wouldnt go up annually from either failure in ability or judgement.  Just a thought.

I dont think it matters at these speeds, people are doomdicks.

What should be compulsory is lessons on motorway driving and as part of your practical test. If you get too close for your stopping distance: 1 Major.

With any luck that might set a trend of better driving on the motorway. Then the limit could be something more reasonable like 90mph.

Before the limit was set to 90mph Id like to see some mandatory psychological screening of drivers as part of the test and those with anger management issues being denied licenses. There are millions of people who sail through their test without issues and then progress to becoming an angry, aggressive driver who causes problems for everyone else on the road.

Of course itll never happen because it would drastically reduce the amount of tax our beloved leaders get thanks to a massive drop in drivers on the roads but its a nice thought.

some places you have to drive aggressive tho. Londons impossible to drive curteous & you have to cut up people, jump lights & block up lanes to get to where you want to go.
Blame the goverment for that & their stupid timings on traffic lights.

Crappy weather today, driving home and some tosser is about 10ft from the car in front of it doing 40mph. What logic can justify this, it wont get the car in front to drive faster, as there is another car in front of it.

Id agree about the people changing driving stile over time. I remember saying to a friend I gave lifts to when at college, when Id just passed and we were on our way, how I didnt understand why people were tailgating me, I was doing the limit and any faster was stupid. And then by the end of college I was saying to him how I didnt get why the people werent going faster or pulling over as they were doing 37 in a 40 etc ><

Bad driving breeds bad driving it seems. Itd be nice to think that people wouldnt tail so much if people on dual/motorways stayed in the relevant lane and didnt just sit in the outside lane all the time, but meh. Am tempted to get some form of bumper sticker to point out the futility of tailgating but I CBA being so lame.

Theres absolutely no common sense on the motorway however you look at it though, like the hatchback at 90mph brigade that seem to think you have to violently swerve in and out of the lanes between the smallest of gaps in a bid to overtake, half the time not even bothering to indicate, all instead of just sitting comfortably in the middle/outside lane until there is a reasonable enough gap to warrant moving back in. Its common sense.

People being forced to constantly brake is what spoils the movement of motorway traffic. That and lorries overtaking :disappointed:

All you will do is end up with huge traffic jams crawling down the motorway, quite often they reduce the speed limit to allow such blockages to clear.

People drive to close and without consideration.

People on the motorway in France had good road manners when I was there.

I think we should have a unit especially on motorway driving on the UK test. But do it after youve passed your test.

Bring in adaptive cruise control and well all be much better off!
