The quickest, easiest, dirtiest way to get hits and traffic is for tekheads to do a deal of the day that makes a desirable product the cheapest in the UK, then get it 'hot' on hotukdeals linking back to here.

They need to do it on their site and then have adverts around. Has anyone seen tekheads adds and banner adds in magazines and on the web? Do they do any?
Deal of the day Matt is VERY correct. It currently is one of the BEST forms of web traffic for an online store at the moment.

This site uses a framework on the CMS we primary use at work that I spent quite a bit of time building..

They have deal of the day and it brings in a lot of traffic. This so much so other clients are looking to or already are.

I've mentioned this very idea and others to Clocked a few times now. This would drum up some serious traffic and hopefully get some nice sales in but Tek would also have to prepare in advance and be able to allocate some stock just in case.

Brian, The splash screen welcome screen is one of the worst things you can do in modern websites. Trust me as its my job - you DONT do these any more :)

Nige said were the forums are not affiliated, I think Tek already have enough stuff on here to represent them with the support forums. A product thread for them to post cool offers may help them but as said doing all of what you mentioned would be if there was an affiliation or the forums ran by tekheads. That is not the case.

 :D ok i trust on that 1,but what if you just change the wording on there banner underneath from this: Also home to Tekheads Ltd support forums to something saying sponsored by tekheads then in the support section do a sticky explaining that we are not affiliated with them and they just provide discounts to memebers etc :dunno:

.
It is not sponsored by tekheads. :P
I think you just need to get it that these forums are not associated with tek any more. It was still hosted on their servers and a little while ago link and logo and some support forums appeared. Before it for a long time it was even more associated as a lot of people here worked there and Sam was the boss.
Not the case now. Guys have been kind enough to put them up here again for Tek to help them.
Its not a sponsorship or tekheads ownership or tekheads forums.

We just happen to share similar names and some of the forum vets worked there :)

Sharing space was an idea to benefit both - forums and some sort of support for Tekheads, some extra traffic for us :D

I understand that and i,m not really bothered about the changes adding them to the forum section,but surely if some ppl want to get discounts or tekheads want to do it,then in my book thats like being sponsored in a you scratch my back we scratch yours kind of thing Wub

But we're not sponsored by them Brian, they don't pay the hosting or anything. Sponsorship implies money changing hands.

Shall i change it to read "They scratch our back we scratch theirs" :lol:

As long as the free goodies are more useful than the junk that Scan have shipped me with my last two orders.

A pack of 3 Silicon cases for Gen2 Ipods.
I got two of them packs.

Junk.
Straight in the bin.

It is not a clan or anything.
What you basically said here is still sponsorship.
Not sure where you ave got this mindset from about tekheads and these forums?

@Nige
Will you guys re-evaluate the need if Tek stuff if they just continue not to use it? Only saw one post every now and again from a new user with an order problem who made a few posts then never stayed on the forums. At first Andy from Tek did post but not really much from any of them, As mentioned just seemed they using forums for traffic and all really fussed about.

@Tekguys
That not really having a go at you guys, I am in the web industry so I know how things work and from a client company why they would want to do something and have something if they know something about the web.
Of course you want the association to help your business and why not, but especially now there is even less association from you guys now its in a new place I think a bit more of an effort seen to use it would be appreciated.

@Everyone else -
An online business is driven by the number of visits. Getting the traffic is of Massive importance, once there getting them there and making an order seem a very painless and simple thing is important.
It's of huge importance. Forums area a great way for link building, just as blogs are. Tekheads if they want traffic can look at going down the blog route if they want.
When I talk about traffic it is not just about people coming here then seeing Tek. Bots will go through the forums and they LOVE dynamic, always updated content on a site, why forums and blogs and well made sites with that in mind do well. So a bot going through these forums (with nice SEO positives created, like friendly URL's) will pick up on the tek links, other sites linking to threads here etc. If you had facebook like options here as well and the forums on facebook it is a lot of link building for Tekheads.
This in turn helps their ranking as even today the relevant external links is probably the biggest factor to have a good ranking.

Google addwords works but you pay a lot of money for it, same with other similar online advertising.
I get Tekheads understand this to some degree and know the value of this. I have always got the impression that they really never used it at their support forums or showing off products. You had the early stuff but it soon went quite dead in that section. The decision to move it at the bottom from the top for example happened.

It is a value to the company so if they got support stuff or a section to share when products are in stock or have special offers shown etc it really needs to be used properly. If they are not looking to have a ticket system on their site and use this for support they need to get that driven more then it is. Guys here happy to help as free support for tekheads - why not, lots of us here like to help people where we can.

But your getting traffic, link building, SEO for your site and business, free support staff, free advertising space basically now its not on tekheads servers.....

I just would either like to see it being used more by them and for them to appreciate that or b it dumbed down.

I can give Nige some php code which would find all tekheads.co.uk links and add a no-follow for example :)
