Budget Smartphones

Oh Tekforum types of great knowledge, I beseach thee, Which budget price (ie available free on ~15/month) smartphones are worth the time of day, or are all such phones rubbish and I'd be better off with a decent but non-smart handset?

I'm thinking HTC Wildfire S at the moment, any gotchas I should be aware of or similarly priced but superior alternatives?

I'm not expecting a budget model to offer the earth, anticipating mainly using it to check E-mail and facebook on the go.

Orange San Francisco/ ZTE Blade.

Old now though, but rave reviews and easily moddable.

I got one of these for the £80 NHS deal when they came out. An awesome deal and I love the phone! I want to get the missus one now too. Where is the best deal for these nowadays?

Options seems to be the ZTE Blade or the Wildfire S for the budget end. Both have good reviews and are loved by XDA so plenty of custom roms and development happening.

I went for the X10 Mini Pro for my last budget android device as I wanted a good camera (whats normally lacking on the cheaper smartphones) and once you get rid of the crap sony software it was a great phone but for some reason its gone up from £100 to £150 in the last month!?!?
