grrr I think my printer has had it
on: January 09, 2007, 23:42:05 PM
Curses.

I havnt used my Canon i450 inkjet in a while (about 6 or 8 months at a guess) and now Im not getting anything out of the black nozzles. The colours are all working, but no black :(

I replaced the cart, no change, I tried running the print head clean a couple of times, no difference, tried the deep clean, no difference :(

Im going to try and pick up a genuine Canon cart for it to give it one last go but I dont hold out much hope.

Does anyone have any other ideas? or am I looking at a new printer? that will be most annoying as I was hoping to make my next printer a nice wide format 8 ink photo job, but cant afford it ATM.

All inkjet printers suck to some degree...

Last resort: clean the print heads with isopropyl alcohol, or some vodka. AFAIK, theyre not integrated with the cart, so clean the right thing. Also clean the contacts with either alcohol or a pencil eraser.

BTW, Ive had three of those that I kept getting warranteed. They stopped making them, so I ended up with an MP450 under warrantee. Inkjets are the only item where I always pay $20 for an extended warrantee.

Canons awesome about replacement if its not too old. :D

Thanks for the suggestions Maxi, alas this baby is about as old as an i450 can be so the warrenty is long dead and gone. If the last resort new cart doesnt work Ill try cleaning the heads manually as you suggest, hey what have I got to loose!

Its true that Inkjets basically suck, but lasers cant get the photo quality and die subs are too inflexible.

The man who invents a printer which doesnt have any of the flaws of the three current systems will die a poorper, but the company which steals his idea will make a fortune!

If all else fails and you are going to replace anyway try some washing up liquid and water 50/50 give it a good scrub with a cloth on the jets.

Might just work and costs nothing if you are getting a new one anyway.

Print letters in blue?

It might take like 10-12 cleaning cycles to unclog em. If that dont work youll need to take the print heads out (screwdriver + pain in the arse) and sit them in window cleaner or soapy water for a few hours. If that dont work, blame someone else and get a new printer FREE.
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

normally I would agree, but its fix this one or live without a printer for at least a month cause I dont have the cash to buy it now. Cant just print in blue unless I take up monochrome photography.

The print heads on this Canon are designed to be removable, you can even buy replacements but they cost more than a new printer so that is out, should make the cleaning attempt easier though.

thanks for all the cleaning suggestions everyone
