Reminds me of when I decided to stay after work one day and clean the starter motor on my car, it would stick once or twice a week.
After cleaning it I managed to drop it on the floor, and the solenoid top with the electrical connections broke off
Not being able to get a replacement I decided to repair it with cable ties, thinking it would only have to work for 2 days till I could get another.
It would have to take a good thump when the solenoid kicked in, and would have to make a good electrical connection.
That was 4 years ago and its still going strong  

Never thought about epoxy...Id return the clips as soon as you got them. £70 buys a lot of pints and kebab.

Im still a thumbs down on zippies for such an app. I used them on my bike to attach fenders on the front fork, and they needed replacement about every 6 months as theyd get hard and crack. Probably UV exposure, but heat can do the same.

heat and uv are the main causes of degradation, thats how come they add urea to pvc windows because they go yellow and crack.

Might be making some of them out of nylon now, best check if anyone buys any for high temp work.

Kanthal wire is always good, just what you need when your exhaust falls off and you want some really thin, stiff, cheap and mega heat resisting form of support.

I just used a bit of copper wire, soft enough to bend into shape, and twist the ends together, heat resistant and strong enough to hold an exhaust in place.

Most seem to use a rubber ring now.
