Bridge Camera?
on: July 21, 2009, 22:54:00 PM
Im looking for a new camera to take away on holiday next month.

I wouldnt use it enough to get a major expensive DSLR or anything like that so am looking at the bridge cameras.

Quite like the look of the Panasonic Lumix FZ28, esspecially in Silver, and reviews look good too.

Anyone got any experience with them or anything else to look at?

Cheers

I use bridge cameras because theyre perfect for my level of ability. Through sheer preference I stick to Fuji - their bridge cameras are the best (IMO) and I much prefer them to the Lumix range. Ive had an S5600 and recently upgraded to an S9600. Both awesome cameras - the S9600 is about the best bridge camera Ive used (and I tested a lot!) hence why I chose it. Depends what your willing to pay though - I looked long and hard at the S5800 which would be a great shout if your budget is tight.
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

Ive still got my FZ30, an up range but earlier model to the FZ28. Its a very nice camera and works well.

You also might want to look at one of the Panasonic long zoom compacts if size is an issue, FZ28 isnt exactly small.

I had a Panasonic DMC-FZ50 for a couple of years or more. It was a superb bridge camera. Absolutely loved it but eventually I decided it was time to go for a dSLR. I do miss the zoom range I had with my Panasonic with just the one lens. I know there are some decent wide-tele dSLR lenses out there but they would cost me more than my Nikon D80 body cost me.

I thoroughly recommend the Panasonic range of superzoom cameras. Very well built too.

Good luck

Chris

when it comes to lenses the Leica influence on the Panasonic range helps a lot. If anyone in the world can make a lens which is good all the way from 28mm to 400mm (35mm equiv) then Leica would be the safest bet. I dont believe the Panasonic lenses are actually made by Leica, but they carry the name and from what Ive seen the image quality stacks up.

Leica badge the Panasonic cameras under their own name, theyve got to be good, and they are. Lens quality is excellent.
