Simple Maths Question.
on: August 26, 2009, 10:00:39 AM
Excuse my ignorance, but I have a wee maths question.

I have a product that costs X to make, and I need to make 65% profit (for example), what do I need to sell my product for?

What would the formula thingy be for this?

Ta.  :stupid:

X x 1.65

Using the above formula, if you replace X with £100

100 x 1.65 = £165 = £65 profit, or 65%

So I agree :D

Never found this kind of equation a problem, but when you reverse them so you have a value, and then added 26% tax or something, ending up with a value like £133, I struggle to work out the original value. When we had a question like that in maths tests I saved them till the end and did trial and error, guestimating the original value and adding 26% tax, getting closer each time till I got it ><

devide by the total percentage (so 126 in your example)
(to find out what 1% is)

then multiply by 100 (to get 100% again)

133/126*100= £105.56

:)

X = Distro + Stock + Cost to make.

X x 1.65 =1.65X

add sales tax 1.65X x 1.26 = 2,079X

So if X is 100,  sale price including sales tax would be 207.9

and if you  have sale price including tax  lets say £200 you divide by 2.079 and get £95.374344301
