Wow, bit of an oversight there ... £1000 notes LOL

There were several million pound notes in use too.

I wouldnt laugh too much at the idea of £1000 notes - there are plenty of bearer instruments/notes etc.. out there with face values much higher than that & AFAIK some major banks still deliver them via courier or at least used to

always amused me that some local post office will have a big securicor van with a couple of guys wearing helmets etc.. to pick up a few grand whereas some big investment bank will hand over a small package containing 30 million in bearer bonds etc.. to an Ozzy gap year student on a mountain bike.
