Start of the fall of the bbc

Well could be for a while at the very least

Today the official BBC plans for job cuts etc were announced
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7051414.stm

The main changes include:

# Closing 2,500 job posts over the next six years

# Creating about 1,000 new jobs, many of which will be filled internally

# Making 10% fewer original TV programmes by 2012/13, focusing on fewer, high-quality shows

# Establishing an integrated newsroom - merging TV, radio, and online

# Reducing the size of the BBCs property portfolio by selling BBC Television Centre by 2012/13

# Scrapping proposals for new activities, including plans for four new local radio stations

Across TV as a whole, the BBC plans to commission 10% fewer hours, saving £100m every year.

So You will see a lot more repeats, less documentary type series etc
Some of the things I was mentioning and people very strongly had a go at me for when I said the BBC was going down hill
And with these changes at least for next few years it will certainly be the case if it goes ahead until they find their feet again and start to build back up

you got to wonder if it isnt a stunt to try and get the government to step in and allow the raise.

pretty much what i figured.  We used to supply cars to the BBC when i was working for the carhire place, most of the people you meet are unemployable elsewhere.  They also have a superioroty complex, "I work for The BBC you know" holds no weight when you work (indirectly) for VW, they didnt like that.

but if you want better tv you have to increase license fees to support it.

make it a subscription service, and have the government pay for the world service/radio
