I hope you tek folk can remember that cool video I posted then someone posted a couple more vidoes of it with the nice music in the background of the guys using that touch screen job with fingers, resising images etc.

Was a while ago now, cant find it do not know if was an old or new forum post.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6703249.stm popped up today and I was wondering if it was via the same company who made it now working for MS or they just completely ripping someone off, and its funny how ages ago now we saw it and all talked about it and then bbc ages later decides to report on it becuase its MS

More than likely MS bought the research/startup company that developed the concept and are taking it to market.

The BBC probably are choosing to report on it now not because they are "behind the times" but more because its now a product with a decent future and some big money behind it.  Theres plenty of fascinating research going on behind the scenes that doesnt make it on to the theinquirer.net, and if the bbc covered anything that got geeks pulses racing then it wouldnt have time for anything else.

good to see someone bringing that stuff to market, even if it is M$.

Hopefully well see other companies producing something functionally similar before long

This technology is the work o Jeff Han, professor and researcher of New York University at the moment he had this idea. The difference between this technology which was first demonstrated at 2006 TED in a much smaller screen is that it is very cheap. In this particular video thereĀ“s no prjector, the screen is actually that LG giant plasma i think. But anyways, this technoloy is not about the screen but in a thin transparent layer between the screen and the fingers.

You can really see this minority report stle thing cant you, big screens where the police would have a big screen with all the cctv footage on it and just move it about zoome in on it etc, label them up on the fly etc.

Very interesting. but anyone saying something is aimed at the corporate market means we will price it so high that only the rich can afford it,pelease be ready to pay through your nose. In the same way as the led keyboard its going to be initially restricted to a very few users by price.

Having a 47" 1080p screen available certainly reduces my need for that sort of thing, but I can see it being very useful in a lot of areas. I only hope the screen can tilt up from the table top. To be honest there are quite a few ways to do this, and it could be done very easily with a touch surface over a standard LCD screen now.

Virtual screens that just hang in space are much further away, but you can see where its going.
