I Dunno, pc world can shock you, now and again they do actually run a deal thats half decent, and obviously you can just drop in store without delivery times to worry about :)

Of course you have to avoid the staff, but its not that hard

Internet resellers on low margins dont have to cover the overheads of sales staff and brightly-lit warehouse stores.
Anyone in IT who knows their stuff can make more than those who occupy retail floorspace.
Surely self-evident.....:P

their staff are grade one bell-ends...

Theyre the sort of people who work at ASDA and have three GCSEs to their name and because they can use the WHOOPS gun or can change the roll of paper on the tills, they get dillusions of grander and move over to the fast lane of retail known as PC World...

After a 2 day intensive course in Swindon, they see themselves as fully certified Intel, Apple, Crucial, Netgear etc. Engineers and the very people who wrote the book on computer and software engineering...

...then you ask them a question which isnt in the PC World Training Manual such as, "what does cache mean?" and they soil themselves....

Well, why dont one of you get a job there!! If you have nothing better to do get a job there for the fun. Then on staff breaks just make fun of the other staff members.

Last time I was there, they were paying a fat guy to sit on a podium quite high up with cctv cameras and a joystick to zoom in (perve) on customers. Im quite sure he must have followed me and my brother around the whole store! :D

So do yous ever ask them questions or just listen to them talking to other customers?

They way I see it, all they know about the machine/notebook/camera etc in front of them are the specifications on that white peice of paper with a price underneath.

You see it in the adverts as well, the women just blasts out a roll of specifications as If she understands it and the customer nodss and buys one.

Ask them to use their in depth knowledge of the store and their products and they are out of their depth.

The PC World retails guys are clueless, great for ripping into.  I was trying to get a SCSI terminator, I was showing the guy the one i had and he looked as me while INSISTING that the Centronics plug he had in his hand was the right thing.  :\

Other joys include arguming over a some RAM they sold someone (try DDR had just come out and i ended up loosing my temper with the moron who said DDR SDRAM and SDRAM where the same thing but DDR was a bit faster.

Asking for a Linksys router they had, and the idiot telling me the Belkin POS was what I really should buy.  I got Geeky on his arse that time, asking him if it was possible to install different firmwares to enable full traffic prioritisation, VPNs and VLANs withotu resorting to using extra hardware.  After that he just handed be the router and let me ggo pay.

Some of PC Worlds deals are excellent, its a pity they have less clue than a High school IT Teacher.  Only thing they consistently do well is printers, if you are only buying 1 or 2 you are unlikely to find a better price.

The problem I have with PC World staff isnt any of that stuff - at the end of the day theyre wage monkeys and I dont really expect them to be geeked up on technology otherwise theyd be using the stuff not selling it (in the same way I dont expect the woman who answers the phone when you call sky tv to know about satellites).  Tbh we all know what we need on these forums anyway...

The thing I HATE is that you usually just need to ask someone something like oh do you have the new TomTom Go in or do you sell network extenders - just something practical like where the hell have you put this item so I can just buy it and get out.

But no, 800 members of staff in blue jumpers all stood in the repairs section talking to each other and making you queue up with people for an hour just to ask where they keep something or do they have any stock.  I found the answer was to wander around the laptop/tv section looking clueless till someone comes over to try and sell you something - then you have em!  "Yes this TV is interesting but I need a print cartridge *muhahah*. ;)"

PS: you may be able to tell Im not a big fan of PC World :)
