P45
on: September 23, 2008, 16:01:03 PM
Hi All,

I finished at my last job over 3 weeks ago now i still have not had a newly updated P45 arrive through the post. I thought that after your contract at your work ends or if you stopped working for whoever you worked for you got your new P45 through within a week of finishing at that place? Could anyone tell me how i could get my P45 or who i need to contact?

Thanks! - Liam

Ohh cheers. I forgot about the P45! I guess when I head in to uni tomorrow I better go ask em about it too. Will let you know what they say (I have a feeling you need to request it from your employer?)

Or maybe you get the P45 a week within receiving your last pay check. I was employed as a casual contract so Ive probably not been officially removed, in case I just end up getting more work there? Maybe you are the same?

Haha no problem Zpyder! I asked my old employer before and he said that my local council are supposed to send it would within a week or 2 at the msot after my contract ended (officially ended Aug 31st) and still nothing has arrived for me through the post. I was only employed on a temp contract for 12 months.

Its inland revinue but AFAIK its supposed to be your company that writes one out and gives it to you. Part one is sent off to inland revinue, 1A is your copy, part 2 is the form for your new employer and part 3 is what they (the new employer) sends off to the IR. Note that there isnt any point in doing so until they have worked out the total of what you get paid, if the last payment isnt due until after you have left then there probably will be a delay.

If you dont have one you can still fill out a P46 form giving details.

Aahh right, i forgot to say as well that Aug 31st which was the last day of my employment at my last job was also my last paying day there as well so i have already had my last pay from them (iv still got my original work contract with them too if i need any proof from inland revenue) I think i might give the finance office at my old work a ring and see if they know anything.

I think were on the way to getting it sorted :) Just spoke to the finance lady where i worked and she said that payroll were not told about me finishing my temp contract where i worked LOL! really it was a good thing that i rang the place where i worked otherwise i would still be getting payed from them ROFL. Basically now iv been told that il get a P46 through the post tomorrow to fill out and then il have to give my current employer that and then i will get a P45 through.

Its not really that important, you can be processed easily enough without one. The P45 just means you dont go onto emergency tax.
