so hitler, if you lose your job will you be sorting other peoples rubbish?
also the drum method can work 24 hours a day, no need to employ half ass pikeys who wouldnt do the job half as effectively and would mix pfte and htpe because "it looks the same".

I got enough pride to go out & do it if I had to, but I couldnt live on £55 a week. My Mortgage/Loans/insurance are £1k a month. Thats before gas, eleccy, tinternet, phone, food, alcohol, etc.

I am not saying to employ them, I am saying to make them earn their keep.

Put it this way, would you rather shift through sh*t 1 day a week, or work 37 hours a week?

i think forcing people to recycle is the only way.

in terms of responsibility, its everyones to be making a contribution so there are materials available to designers to make products more sustainable and have less of an impact on our environment.

all i do is use more plastic in the form of Plastic Carrier bags, that I then have to take to the tip 5 miles away in my car because they will only take what it in the box, and the box is about 1/4 the size it needs to be.  So I end up using more petrol too.  How an 12x18x24" box is supposed to fit 2 weeks worth of plastic bottles, tins AND cardboard i dont know.

5 stackable boxes for 4 quid from ikea, will save on your petrol.

youre either part of the problem or part of the solution, my friend. which are you?

they will _only_ take stuff that is in the recycling box, nothing else.  Ive tried using other boxes, and they just leave them as being "Incorrectly Packaged".  When i asked the council for extra boxes they said they are £15 each.

speaking of recycling, I got an arse load of wood.
Spoke to local authority & they say I have to take it the tip to dispose of it, no paper mills or power stations will take it.

then you have my sympathy, cos they are just being arseholes.

my council dont give a damn what i leave my many many many magners/bombay saph/ gordons/corona bottles in. they still take them.

I actively requested the bin, bag and box (they are free after all) solely on the basis of the collections being fortnightly for usual refuse.

To me that seems totally unacceptable when you consider its easy for a two man household to fill one bin a week, I dread to think how a family of four would manage. What is downright pathetic is as sdp says, refusal to take any extra black bin bags.

Oh and I agree with Eggs ideas, it would be far more effective.

you dont need seperate bins for different materials, if they spent money on that instead of stupid community projects, then they could afford the tech to do it effectivly.

i think it is disgusting that they wont take extra rubbish, so many times i had to do a bin raid on our neighbours last year (house of 5 students). the binmen are taking the piss imo.

Our council will provide a black bin, but the collection is fortnightly and the capacity is small. Normally I do a walk (100 yards) to the metro station and dump bottles, cans and newspapers into the recycle bins there.

I would prefer if they did big collective bins in the back alley TBVH so everyone could recycle papers, bottles and cans easily.

Weve recently been given a new blue bin where I live.

To be honest ive got two bins in my kitchen, and seperate it that way. Which I dont mind. The thing which I do mind is out food waste/everything else bin is full.....which means new breeds of fly are now in there, it fcuking stinks! I live in a block of 7 flats, and 4 of them are eldery, so eat like half a digestive a day, one guy is away through the week, one guy uses it as a holiday home, so really there is me and another couple.....and our normal bin is overflowing with them! Id hate to live in another block of flats, with full time people living there!! TBH, it isnt working where I live.......hopefully it will change.

I dont have a recycling bin. Apparently the council charge you for having one here, so ive no intention of asking but fortnightly pick ups are a pain in the arse.

Were on the black bin/green bin fortnight thing and its crap. The black bin ends up like Satans armpit and you gotta bleach it everytime it gets emptied.

sounds like youve got a tight arse council - pickups every 2 weeks is a joke tbh...

though we dont have any actual bins supplied by the council except just a plastic green box for recycling stuff - but it does gets collected every Wednesday in addition to the regular rubbish collection every Thursday - regular rubbish collection goes into our own bins which the bin men come and empty for us (dont even have to remember to put them out into the street)- if we have too much rubbish then it gets stacked on top and they take that too.

makes a refreshing change from when I was living up north in Sheffield - the council felt the need to supply everyone with identical wheelie bins and the bin men were a bunch of union type bone idle muppets - forget to move your wheelie bin a few meters out into the street and it would be ignored (even if it is in plain view of them) leave a bag of rubbish on top because youve filled it up and theyd chuck it onto the pavement

IMO my bin is like a little plastic skip - Ill chuck my bag of rubbish in every time the kitchen bin is full then I dont want to see it again - I dont expect to have to wheel it backwards and forwards into the street every week because the guys who I am paying to collect the rubbish cant be arsed to walk 3 meters. - No doubt some Labour council up north will soon introduce US style mail boxes at the end of peoples drives to save postmen from walking an extra couple of meters too.
