Normally Tescos or Morrisons. There is an Asda close enough but we rarely go there.

TBH each has their cheaper products so its still worth shopping around.

Also go into Lidl, Aldi and a few other places for specific things.

For fruit/veg its best to go to a market if there is one locally, or a specialist frozen food shop if you dont mind buying sub zero.

Check out :

http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/FirstTimeHome.aspx

Fill a basket and itll compare it between the major supermarkets.

I find M&S to be more expensive than Waitrose. Ive filled a basket on MySupermarket and found Waitrose to be cheaper than Sainsburys and not much above Tescos sometimes tbh!

I tend to shop between Sainsburys/M&S/Waitrose as theyre alll close to work and where I live, but occasionally Ill do a mega shop at one of the big Tescos.

cheapest with be Aldi/Lidl

Asdas the cheaper of the big food chains.

Think after that its Tesco < Sainsburys < Marks and Spencer < Waitrose

nah I reckon you can divide them into different groupings the top one being M&S by itself.

M&S

Waitroes

Sainsburys
Tesco

Asda
Morrisons
Co-op

Iceland
Aldi Lidil etc...

(technically I guess M&S isnt really a supermarket and neither are the frozen food places)

Morrisons meat is good,

not at all - Morrisons meat is cheap - Ill grant you that - but it definitely isnt good!

Ive got a morrisons and a waitrose near to me - most of the time Id just go to the waitrose for everything but sometimes, if I can be bothered, Id go to waitrose for meat and some pre prepared meals (not quite as good as M&S fro this but still pretty good) and morrisons for everything apart from meat (I mean heinz, kellogs other brands etc.. is the same where ever you go)

Id better qualify that statement

in terms of the meat you get from the shelves it is sh*te - for example they sell chicken at half the price waitrose does and often have knocked another 50% off too or offered a 2 for 1 offer

you take it home to do a stir fry and your pan immediately fills with water - the meat is literally saturated & is very low quality

free range stuff from M&S or waitrose is noticably better albiet four times as expensive

however I will say that if youre talking about thier morrisons butcher then fair enough - if I wanted a decent leg of lamb or sirloin steak I might go there if I hadnt been arsed going to one of several food markets round london

Yeah I meant the butcher side of things, they do all those huge pork pies, etc, real Yorkshiremans food, guaranteed coronarys in your first year on the two a day plan...

Morrisons good for Fish too.

Tescos is ok for the basics but wouldnt want to eat their food every day, Sainsburys is the best of the mid-rangers.

M&S is just awesome tbh.

food inflation is currently running at close to 10% pa (forget all this CPI nonsense)

wherever you shop, its going to get more and more expensive :(

i would reccomend shop local.

yes the meat may be more expensive, but the fruit/veg is cheaper by far, and you know it hasnt been flown all over the world.

My local fruit and veg shop gets stuff in from virtually everywhere, its a global market even for the small fish.
