Why did I not know about this?

http://www.tvcatchup.com/

Just installed the beta on my OneX and it works flawlessly, glorious TV on the move for free. Will be installing the XBMC plugin on my main media centre tonight and hopefully trying it on the Raspberry Pi over the weekend.

Its not a bad service and has come a long way since I last looked at it. Don't watch much TV so not a huge interest for me :)

Whats the benefit of this vs say iPlayer or 4OD? My biggest problem with these services is that if you have a rubbish net connection like I do streaming is a struggle.

Can't comment on performance but it is nice having all channels in one place instead of having to use iplayer/40d/etc seperately.

It's also live tv. There's 40 or so freeview channels, inclding all the BBC ones, all the on demand Olympic ones, Dave etc etc. Most of that isnt available from the official providers, only selected recorded episodes.

This is also available on iPhone / iPad apparently.

Only downside I've found is that it requires either a 3G or WiFi connection.

I would have assumed you can use it at home via Ethernet/modem connection?

2G/2.5G mobile connections like GPRS, EDGE etc.

Bloody good app this!

Sadly my TV is in use by the in-laws so I cant test out the add-in tonight.

Ultimately it's just a website, been using it probably 3 years now. The iOS app though makes it a very polished live tv streaming system.

Only downside is the regional stuff screws up, it's from whomever is streaming it. Mostly London but have had Scottish BBc channels before now. So not so great for news, etc...

So really it is pretty much destined for people on the move who want to watch something on the train or whatnot, not for the home user.

Its potentially a simple solution in rooms where you have a PC / media centre but nothing with a tuner.

I use it in the bedroom where I don't have a TV aerial.

Or at home if you have a htpc

Or a home where you're using a desktop computer

Or at home in bed

Or generally anywhere you have an Internet connection.

The original point made was that it was only geared up for wifi, but nevermind.
