Cut & paste into a new document & save it there

tried that, didnt work.

it must be a common thing as the MS website has loads of info on it.

i managed to save it as rich text format. dunno if that is bad but seems to have worked.

next suggestion was cut & paste into Wordpad, save as RTF & open it in word.

She might have to insert graphics and possibly format again but otherwise it should be OK ;)

Open office is at least as good as M$ except its free...

Another vote from me for OpenOffice, I find if you do have any problems chances are a fix or workaround has already been posted and it did a far better job on my undergraduate thesis than Office, it was simply much more intuitive and user friendly.

Openoffice does have some issues, in that if you open a doc file with heavy formatting, it can look slightly different. But now Microsoft has started using its own open document format, these problems should go away :)

Office 2007 was an absolute star really helped me with my undergraduate thesis this year.

The biblography and citation system, outlining and styling has really been developed so you can finally throw away the latex and lyx combination of old really.

Open Office has never been "up there" with either Microsofts offering, StarOffice or Latex/Lyx. Its basically a replacement for microsoft works if anything. Sure... its fine for a quick report or a letter, or CV. But push the boundaries and youll quickly come up against its limitations.

Lyx/LaTeX user here, I just throw the document together and let it handle the formatting, always comes out looking semi-reasonable to begin with and then I just have to do a few tweeks right at the end. With the added bonus that the auto-numbering of figures, equations, sections etc and auto creation of TOCs and bibliographies actually works. Oh and the Lyx math editor mode is just better in every way than anything else Ive seen.

I havent used Word since the mess Word 97 made of my reports for BNFL back in 2002. Having decided the report was finished, it then took me best part of a day to get all the formatting to work properly. Eventually had to turn auto page numbering off altogether and do it manually. For the sakes of all those of you still using it I hope it has improved since then!

Open Office is The Same as StarOffice, but without any form of commercial support.

In answer to the actual question; empty yourt temporary folder
:
Start->Run->%TEMP% [ok]
select all -> delete

Some files will be locked but get rid of the bulk and your problem should go away.

I have the works 8 without word and I have access to word separately if I wanted it. Latest version of OO makes Works look like a great big turd gone off, its just something M$ offer for virtually next to nothing to stop people who are buying a new system looking around at alternatives. It also allows sellers to say ooh, look what value we are giving When really they should pay you for being kind enough to take it.

On some thing there may be issues but I handle 120K word documents and havent had a problem with oo 2.1 at all, something I cant say about works.
