PS3 4000 Series
on: August 18, 2012, 22:35:49 PM
PS3 CECH-4000 Series
25-30% smaller
Flip-lid Disc Input
16GB SSD (also 250GB+ options)

Possibly cheaper?

This was set to be launched at Gamescom but was held back due to massive stocks of the current PS3, we should see some deals/price cut incoming in the run up to xmas as Retailers clear stocks.

I would be surprised if they did that. Considering that there very well may be a an MS event before Xmas for a tease or some time next year likely at E3 to announce the new Xbox I think while Sony won't be ready with ther machine and if they do announce something at say E3 it will be like Nintendo and be well over a year out still.

Wouldn't it be a waste?
Especially since they just announced more money into their online services and vita which is not doing great?
Ps3 sales are not great too.

Right now is the PC and great to see and if Steam launches their huge screen update as well hooking up a controller to your pc, steam and a big tv is the current in thing and I love pc gaming right now.

Darksiders 2 and some recent games look and work better on PC and you can tell game developers are itching for the next stage.

Not that I will be upgrading, but I'm curious what the process is for transferring all your data from your old PS3 to a new one if you decide to upgrade? I'm guessing its not as easy as it should be.

Slightly off topic, but I think Sony are getting things right, PS Plus I've always thought to be a waste of money, but a friend of mine subscribed to it, and he's had to upgrade his HD to a 1TB drive as the games the give away free with it are actually pretty good, if you take in to account the cost, you'd only need one or two good games to make it worth it, just wish I had the time to play the games, otherwise I'd subscribe :) Tried to find a proper list of what has been offered to date, but couldn't find a definitive list, but this one has some detail: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/06/05/playstation-plus-e3-2012/ although this might be the US list so some of them may differ (also nothing to stop you setting up a US account or even a Japanese account -I have a UK and a US account - the US store appears to be better)

One thing i'd like to see from the XBox though is party chat, you setup a group chat outside the game, so you can just talk to each other and ignore all of the other nobs online :)

Also a proper kinect interface would be nice, rather than the flop it tried to launch :)

No 250gb for Europe apparently. Instead it'll be the 12gb SSD model here, but unfortunately if you choose to put a HDD in the machine you lose the ability to save to that 12GB. Thing is, with a lot of PS3 games having mandatory installs that 12GB will be full in no time.

I seriously hope the next gen gets SSDs all round, the only thing worse than waiting for the PS3 to load/save data is waiting for it to read from disc!

I seriously doubt it will be SSD option only, for too long as sales will diminish rather quickly :P

There will still be the 500GB model to buy but if you want the cheaper one then you have only one choice, the 12GB
