New Monitor...

Philips BDM3275UP 32-Inch LCD Monitor

http://www.digitalversus.com/lcd-monitor/philips-bdm3275up-p27673/test.html

Works fine, no dead pixels, no issues with banding or flicker. Supposed low contrast isn't a problem, I found it brighter than the old 24" Dell which I am typing on now.

It's huge, Looks great for picture manipulation, although not done much of that beyond looking at a few pics on screen.

Games should be ok providing you aren't a FPS hardnut. Loaded up Guild Wars 2 for a walk around. Ran fine averaging 40-50 FPS at 4K on a single Nvidea GTX 970 although it certainly isn't anywhere near the most graphically demanding game today.

Downside:

It's huge? Almost too big. Then I didn't go for 40" option...

Sites like BBC and yahoo only use a thin band down center of screen, but that is a problem of the site, not the monitor.

Text looks tiny as do on screen buttons.

Screen controlled by touch buttons on bottom of bezel, could be better.

Cost, but it is a professional display.

might sound silly, but I use a 27" Mac & I only use 1/2 the screen for browsing.

That's not silly, that's how they're supposed to be used. I'm toying with the idea of getting an Ultrawide panel to replace my Dell - not that there is anything wrong with my IPS panel - as I'd rather have one large screen with appropriate real estate for when I work from home instead of two individual screens. Plus it should be badass for films and games that support those resolutions properly  8)

At work I use three screens and we're working on hooking up a fourth via USB, so at home having only a single screen gets irksome now.

I still use a 24" Dell IPS Ultrasharp for main screen and an updated 32" full hd tv for when i need more screen space, but i'm currently using it to work through Californication from the Ep1.

I still see curved a a gimmick though, how are you finding it?

Fits quite nicely in the corner with the curve, its too big for the room really and the light output is crazy but its properly nice, great colour and clarity

Those wide screens are really good for films. The curve isn't quite a gimmick, being close it may help with appearance and viewing angles. It also seems to reduce distortions at the right and left edges of the screen when viewing. This certainly does make a small improvement on large TV screens and is one of the reasons cinema screens are curved. The other side is that it makes the screen favor a single viewing point, which is fine for a single user but not family viewing.

Then the 32" widescreens lose out a good bit on pixels with the 32" ones (4.95 million vs 8.25 million). They also tend to be more expensive as fewer people buy them.

I suspect that with OLED screens becoming more common, flexible and larger in the future there may be some that can be both flat and curved depending on the viewer's choice.

Do fancy  getting  one of these: http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/asus_pg348q_34_rog_swift_monitor_review
but don't fancy being tied to Nvidia for 4-5 years, I jumped on 2560x1440 quite early and regretted it for awhile as I had to update my graphic's cards to get decent FPS at that resolution.

Tempted to wait 6-12 months to see if anybody manages to have Freesync and Gsync on the same panel.
