Much Longer boot since new HDD
on: December 04, 2012, 06:49:13 AM
Since I installed my new 2Tb drive my boot times have tripled. It's only being used as a media drive so should not even be getting looked at during boot.
I'm running 2x OCZ SSD's in RAID0 so boot is usually 20s max, but since I've installed the new HDD boot is over 1min.

The point where it seems to be taking longer is the windows7 animated splash screen, and then sometimes on the screen after I enter my password and it goes to desktop.

Any ideas whats causing this and how to fix it? I may aswell not bother with SSD's if this is normal.

is it possible windows has moved its swap file thing to the 2tb disk, so its reading from there & slowing down?

Only thing I could think of is maybe to try moving the 2TB drive to a different SATA channel in case they are affected by being on the same channel? Put the 2TB one on a different controller (i.e. the non-RAIDable ports if your board uses two controllers)

mscofig'd to check there's nothing daft running at startup which could be reading/checking that drive ?

try unplugging it and see what happens... could be a coincidence ?

run a speed test on the 2tb drive and see what happens ?

that's about all I can think of (apart from what egg and nige said)
