Any good budget android tablets
on: February 14, 2012, 23:07:49 PM
Am I best off waiting for the kindle fire to be released over here or are there other budget tablets that are worth a look?

Am not looking at iPad price range (in which case I'd just get an iPad anyway) as I don't have much use for a tablet aside from turning it into a universal remote or maybe using as a movie player on long journeys.

My mum has a good one, scroll excel, won the gadget show shoot out of budget android tablets.

Plays 1080p 3d output over hdmi and native hidef video is not bad either. Pretty impressed over it and can't get her off of bloody angry birds.

Not seen the scroll, but I'd say go for an Advent Vega.

What do you need it to do and what will you use it for?
Kindle fire has not got good reviews.

Not much as per the first post + maybe some occasional browsing.

The two suggestions look good - though the advent just seems to be available via eBay. Am wondering whether to wait for kindle as supposedly releasing a new one which might well be the model we get in the UK too.

Scroll excel was the best of the "budget" tablets for video output out of their lineup, which is what sold it for me.

The rest of them had rubbish resistive screens or were like watching a slideshow when you shoved 1080p HD video on it.

My mum's cost £139 from amazon.

Price does fluctuate though. Christmas they were selling for £180ish.

Only downside and you'll find this with a lot of tablets is that none of the budget ones are Android approved. So Google doesn't allow them to use the official marketplace (which is why you'll see things like slideme market or appstore or easymarket).

That said, most tablets have the market application on as it's a core part of android. You just have to use the google search widget to access it as there won't be an icon for it on the applications menu.

You can also find the APK for the market app lying around online too if you really want that icon.
