Windows 7

Im using a 2 * 1TB 7200RPM Stripe but its still slow. That said I have 8GB of RAM, so theres only noticeable disk lag when reading apps/files into RAM :)

I dont really trust the HD test.... I have 5 fast sata 2 disks in raid 0.... hardly make any difference compared to a single disk in the test..... but make s a massive difference when you actually use it

nimrod, what cpu do you have ? Ive got a core2duo going at 4ghz, itll do 4.4 easy but I had to up my fans to 7v which pissed me off so backed it off a bit

Im tempted to upgrade cpy/mb/ssd :o

Im running a Core i7 @ stock 2.8ghz :)

Im doing some investigation into drivers / bios updates as Im wondering if Ive got a weird bottle neck on the RAID chipset (or something).

I think its just the benchmarks not working it out right..... Ive always run raid and theyve always been under rated in tests

benchmarking my raid array tops out at about 100meg sec read/write

but I can copy from my 2 backup dicks onto it, and get 90meg/sec from each (so 180meg/sec write)

and Im pretty sure thats maxing out the backup disks not the raid array.... I dont notice any slow down if I open other programs etc...

Sorry, I cannot get past this ;)

teehehehehe *over it*

My system is actually from Dell so anything could be happening inside it but then for what I paid Im not that bothered :)
I can run the 3 Windows XP Virtual Machines I need for development and all my other stuff whilst watching a 1080p mkv without any problems so who cares about a number :)

I dont think it makes any difference what HDDs you have mostly, unless its SSD, it probably only recognises SATA, SATAII, RAID and SSD as types or something, hence most people getting the same index. It would be interesting to know. It does seem to make the whole thing even more arbitrary than I first thought.
