dead microserver

Looks like my HP N54L Microserver died last night.

Its around 3 years old and I had upgraded to a G8 so this was sat in the garage for a few months before I decided to use it.

Built it yesterday with a new install of freenas and this morning it was not working, plugged a screen in and saw just a load of artifacts.

Rebooted and now there's no VGA out and the status light is dead.

Tried resetting the BIOS by removing the battery and booting with no drives but still nothing. Think its had it which is a shame as it was a good bit of kit.

Might be worth trying with a dedicated graphics card? Is your garage prone to damp?

its not damp out there just cold. Had the ilo on a hp server reporting inlet air temp of -3C last year.

I pulled the thing apart and re seated everything, appears to have brought it back from the dead for now.

Good stuff!

I'm still going strong with mine though truth be told I haven't used it in ages as I've not been watching many films and that's its primary purpose along with backup.

I had a Gen 8 arrive yesterday to replace the N54L, mostly just for the ILO but the bit of extra juice should help too! I was working remotely on the server from the other side of the country and Remote Desktop locked me out, so hopefully ILO will sort me out.. Can't complain for £110!

Tell me that you did take advantage of the cash back? ServersPlus is where I got mine but expect eBuyer do the cashback too..
