New motherboard i/0 sockets

the red plugs have four sockets, bottom esata then firewire, whats the top 2.

Would be far easier knowing the motherboard involved. IIRC USB3 are designed to be backwards compatible so a normal USB should fit. yahoos....

I would guess they are just USB ports then.

I am taking a punt...but experience and instinct tell me they are usb.

But they are coloured red to indicated they are intended for external drives. (We use a few external drives and the come with twin usb connectors.)
So the red ports are all nice to be co-ordinated.

Or they could just be red as the ports in the same block are red? one piece of plastic?

I dont know why they have been coloured Red but they are just USB.

This is the most likely reason they are red. If it looks like a USB port then it is a USB port. Looked at a couple of more picks, the odd metal stripes are just conductors for static.
