why are you dropping back to xp32 ?  what do you run now ?

xp64 works 100% for me !
(and Im going to dual boot with vista64 too)

edit/p.s.  does anyone know of decent ramdrive thingie program ?.... I cant resist loading prgorams/games into memory and seeing how fast they startup/run !

iirc. theres a program that boots before windows, loads windows into ram and then boots it up ?... will have to test out that too !

To be perfectly honest Im getting lazy these days, I cant be bothered running around finding drivers and programs that are 64 compatible. Plus, it doesnt seem quite as fast as any of my 32 installations.

Currently running XP64.

I thought I might need 8Gb at some point, but I have to say even with leaving the PC running 24/7 with 100s of websites, Photoshop, etc running, Ive not had any HDD thrashing or slowdowns with just 4Gb :)

I bet its nice not hearing the HDD at all though

You should set up a RAMdisk!

I was tempted to look into a ram disk last year but never got very far. Would be cool :)

Ive been watching them carefully.... but theyre still too small and expensive for what they are :(

Im still watching them tho !

(iirc a 16gig one was the biggest a few months back, and cost ~£400 WITHOUT the ram !

mmm all this talk of RAMdisks reminds me of my 286.

Couldnt make use of the whopping 3.6MB of RAM so I had a 3MB RAMdisk set up. It was seriously fast. Since I had no HDD, I had the first line of AutoExec.bat copy DOS onto the RAMdisk. Took ages to get going but once the copy was finished it flew. In so far as an 8Mhz 286 without a math-coprocessor can be said to fly.
