Those cooky kids over at the Doom9 forums hate themselves some DRM. Not more than two months after discovering a means to extract the HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc "volume keys" to decrypt AACS DRM on individual films, were now getting word that DRM hacker arnezami has found the "processing key" used to decrypt the DRM on all HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc films. Lets break this down for what it is: instead of needing individual keys for each and every high-definition film -- of which there are many -- the processing key can be used to unlock, decrypt, and backup every HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc film released so far.

Great, now Bittorrent promises to bring the internet to its knees. On the other hand, underwear sales in Hollywood remain brisk.

Meh I cant be arsed to download HD movies... they are HUGE! I cant afford that much space :P

Plus now Im out of London Ive gone from 50meg cable to 2.4meg TalkTalk :s

Theyll stay on the newsgroups where they belong with the other HD content :)

Ive had to buy 6 x 750 GB disks to keep the stuff on !

YEah, no real point to DRM at all, if its on a movie it gets hacked if it is music it just pisses people off.

I think though not many UK folk at least would download the hd movies bar the storage our nets would explode.

I dunno, 25gb doesnt take that long on a NTL 10mb connection (about 7hours I think). The real issue atm is the cost of a player, burner and media !

I was toying with getting the HD-DVD addon for the 360 purely so that I could start buying HD-DVDs but in all honesty I prefer a dedicated player so I will be waiting for the £150 standalone players to come out :)

Most HD movies arent this big, but just over 2 hours of 1080p is 20-25Gb.

24Gb = 4 hours on my connection.




End of the day most people wont be downloading HD stuff unless theyve got a big enough screen. 720p is good enough upto 32". 37" (although more like 50+) and youll start to notice the difference with 1080p.

Roll on 52" 1080p screens this year for £2k :)

Theres been a whole thread on Screen Size/resolution before and it all comes down to your viewing distance from the screen.

Im toying with getting a HD-DVD title and sticking it out using PDVD to my Plasma just to see how good HD-DVD looks compared to SDVD. I would rip the single HD-DVD title I own but I dont have a player capable of reading it *L* :D
