Weight Training

Can anyone point me towards a good eating and weight training guide please? Im looking to get back into Martial Arts again and want to start training now in prep, starting with cardio to try and sort out my breathing and putting a bit of strain on my muscles so they can just get used to the pressure again.

I have no idea what to do about eating, Ive heard a lot of stuff. But would prefer to get some real info rather than a load of mixed views.

Current Height is 511 and 12 1/2 stone :)

Thanks

Toning or Bulking up?

Eating, eat reguarrly, dont snack, dont eat after 8pm ish.  It will just sit on you.

I do 3 sets of 15 of whatever I can manage at the time and aim 5kg higher each time I go regardless of whether I can manage it or not at the time.

Get down the gym, get a program sorted out, see what works for you.

Toning, want to bulk my arms and shoulders a bit first, then tone on that. Cant sign up for a Gym fully yet till July as Im moving then, so just using the work one that is rather limited.

Usually the best way to tone and lose weight is a good overall work out of cardio and weight training.  Unfortunately you cant actually target areas to lose weight if you want to do that.

Im actually the same weight/heights as you.

I would spend 10 minutes warming up + streches.  Push yourself for 20 mins on any cardio work without straining yourself, just a good workout.  Then do some weight training for 1/2 Hour.  Say 3 sets of 10 or 15.  Theres not much point doing anymore in one set for toning.

If you want to bulk your arms then do 5-10 repetitions with heavier weights and short breaks on the different muscle groups.  Dont work on them too often as they are the easiest muscles to overtrain.

I got dumbbells and they knackered my back. And Im still skinny.

Dont get dumbbells.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

still needing advice on this or did you fire on with it ?

I wouldnt recommend starting off on 5x5s

I would describe myself as intermediate and I have just started 5x5s

start off with maybe 8 reps for 3 sets on each exercise for a few months before deciding what way youre going to roll

I went strength as I dont have any desire to get in super cut shape, and i cant be bothered with the fanatical diet it requires.

Save starting a new thread ill just steal this one.

Ive been doing alot of weights at home and in the Gym but Ive got a major problem atm

When doing some exercises, mainly chest press and over head tricep extension, my elbows click like mad, its not painfull but is very uncomfortable, enough to put me off my lifts and its stopping me from lifting heavier weights, im stuck on weights that my muscles can easily do but my elbows wont let me increase.

anyone ever come across this? what can i do? its really pissing me off, so much that Ive just chucked a 20kg dumbell through the spare room door while trying to do my triceps, missus isnt impressed.
