Super car driving day..
on: June 10, 2012, 23:18:50 PM
Had a great weekend with a gift from the GF of a super car experience day.

Bit of a trek to get there and it didn't last long enough but was still amazing, glad the weather stayed dry and not too cold/windy.

So out on track with:

Audi R8
Lamborghini Gallardo
Ferrari F430 (Aston DB9 was having new brakes fitted so traded to this rather than wait.. glad I did)
Ferrari 360
Porsche 996 Turbo

Of all of them the Ferrari's left me grinning the most, the lambo was too cramped inside the Audi and the Porsche were great but didn't give that same buzz (probably because they are soulless, German and AWD)

Did you get to spank any of them, or did they make you still drive relatively sensibly?

They do make you drive sensibly on these in the corners from my experience but you still get to floor it and experience the speed. Sounds like a great day, which track was it? When I did Bruntingthorpe to drive the Murcielago I only got to drive the one for a few laps, driving all those different cars must have been immense (and costly!) though it seems to me the Gallardo would be a bit underpowered compared to the rest?

Depends on what you mean.

You were on track with potentially over £1m worth of cars and plenty of people at risk so there's plenty to be worried about.

The experience was helmet less and there are no special measures on the car to protect the occupants so some care had to be taken.

You had an ARDS instructor in the passenger seat to guide you round.

Remembering that you have never driven round the track before in cars you wont have driven before I think there was still plenty of freedom.

If you spun the car you'd have been asked to leave but if you were following the instructor you'd not manage that.

You were still full throttle on track and hammering the brakes for the corners, the instructors I had got me through the corners at speeds which I probably wouldn't have attempted on my own anyway. The 996 Turbo got me a little worried in one bend as i could feel the back coming round, instructor was pretty happy though had me pressing on. Corner near the pits was limited but the rest of the circuit was flat out.

Problem is so few laps in differing cars you never really get to learn the car/track to explore the limits.

I went to prestwold hall nr loughborough for mine, its an old airfield but has been surfaced for the circuit.

My neck of the woods that, my mate Andy is always raving about that place! Just googled it, 15 mins away

His fave he's ever driven there believe it or not is the Nissan GTR.

Yeah your experience was pretty much like mine then but with lots more cars! You do still drive them hard but you're being guided by the instructor so you never get true free reign to hoof it as you please (and you wouldn't want to as pointed out, its scary strapped into such an expensive and powerful machine with others on the track too). Seeing the pics makes me want to do it again!

Coming from experience I can say that doing a single seater experience pisses all over a super-car experience.

Do it as soon as you get a chance!
