Exquisite pain :D
on: February 04, 2007, 02:59:40 AM
15.13KM in 30 minutes on my exercise bike @ the third difficulty setting. 30.26km hour sustained. My best ever performance on this thing.

My butt feels like its been savaged by an alligator though, and my legs are in cramp all the way down. Im covered in sweat too.

Time for some tablets...

Why am I trying to kill myself? You may ask. In December the Doctor sent me for some tests for my blood pressure (average was something a little in excess of 140/100, so I have to do something about it. I could just take the prescribed tablets and say sod it but I think some proactive pain might help too. Max heart rate was 156BPM.

I might feel like c**p but perhaps it will do me some good, its not that Im exhausted, far from it, its just fighting the cramp.

Im not convinced flat going flat out is necessarily the safest or most effective way to reduce blood pressure  :?

lol same. Whilst amusing to read about dont think its advisable.

High blood pressure + high heart rate = higher blood pressure.

Ask your doc before you do anything!

Thats not really my point - exercise definitely will help, its just that doing it to exhaustion starting from already having qutie high blood-pressure can be dangerous. A more gradual approach for a longer duration reduces the risk.

Thats not really my point. though almost.

Exercise definately will help, but doing it at such a high intensity just because youll think its doing good, could infact be doing harm.

A more gradual approach for a longer duration reduces the risk :)

Here?

Point is I wasnt anywhere near exhaustion. My leg muscles were causing the problems, my heart still had a good bit of room

Been up near 200 bpm on a professional test a good few years back without dying, although that made me totally exhausted and I had to lie down because I was feeling faint.

There wasnt any chest pain at all or I would have stopped. What I did have was leg muscle pain and cramp, which is due to my arthritis trying to prevent the joints moving. Its just something I have to live with. Still had to lie down, but that was purely because of my legs being unsteady.

I built up to this, Im not stupid! Well, not that stupid anyway. In December I would not have been able to do it, so I started doing 5kms in twelve minutes and increased over time.

Pulse at rest this morning 68! :)  When I started it was nearer 80.

Keep within your aerobic workout heart rate range and youll definitely be fine.

At a guess thatll be about 140~150bpm.

Thats really good going too!  :)

When I used to cycle a lot at the gym Id usually do 34~35km in an hour.  I was cycling for the hour though.

Was never my cardio system that gave up though, always my ass

It kinda gets sore after a while!

Went for another test last Friday, seems my BP is right on normal :)

Will be back up again this Friday for another one plus some blood tests to make sure my kidneys arent being affected by the tablets.

Serious to work out your max safe heart rate take your age from 220 and aim to work out at about 80-85% of that figure.

For maximum cardio gains your better working out longer than pushing harder tbh
