What should i do?
on: September 08, 2006, 18:18:45 PM
I bought a snazzy crankset a while ago:

with a 32T middleburn ring...

Its a lovely bit of kit...

BUT i sold the bike which i was going to put it on...

SO its doing nowt, however, i can put it on my new SSer, but its running a external bearing BB setup, so i dont know if i could just bolt the new one on... Max, Soopah??

If i cant should i just buy a cheapo LX BB and put the new crankset on it or should i just flog it on ebay?

Although the Middleburn stuff is nice, in comparison to whats on there its junk, relatively speaking.

The middleburn crank is a square taper, the external bb stuff is much stronger and stiffer, because its all ISIS.  That means its splined.

Sell the middleburn, and put the money into some nicer cranks,

Race Face Evolve XC

Just like on my Chameleon :D

If you like the look better, LX BBs are supercheap. I really hate Octalink, as its proprietary, but ISIS really is stronger if youre absolutely worrying about strength. I personally prefer good ole square--I have a ti Campy spindle on my SS. :D

From a performance/price standpoint something in the middle of the Truvativ line is probably best, but not very thrilling. If you want thrilling, go square taper with an old Campy 5 arm track crank. Or grind down a Record outer and use it as a bash ring. Sure it might snap, but youll look awesome breaking it. :D

im running a truvativ stylo at the moment, its not put a foot wrong, so its folly to replace it purely on the bling factor...

ill whizz the middleburn gear on bikemagic...
